Satoyama Farm – Kuching

About Us

The Satoyama Story

Sato” meaning village, home or native place and, “Yama”, meaning mountain or woodland. Together, “Satoyama”, refers to the Japanese model of harmony between civilization and nature. Our story is rooted in the belief that it is this harmony between people and nature that makes the world a better place. Aligning with Sarawak Department of Agriculture’s vision for 2030, we envision a future where local communities are able to utilise to the fullest the resource-rich land of Sarawak. We aim to do this by creating job opportunities for the rural population that serve not only to educate people on modernised farming methods and agricultural research but also to provide an income source for those in need. In our research, we hope to produce organic chicken feed that is commercially viable using local Sarawakian ingredients. It is this objective to uncover the true potential of Sarawak’s people and land that drives our company.

Our People

The Farm

An 18-acre piece of land located in Serian, Sarawak. The farm is equipped with smart farming facilities, produced through collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, that serve to monitor, record and diagnose farm activities to improve the way we run our farm. Spacious chicken enclosures cover the farmland, allowing our Sasso birds to roam freely. To conduct our research, the farm is densely populated by a wide variety of plant life which we use in our organic feed research and production together with Black soldier fly larvae, harvested from our hatcheries and nurseries located on site.

The Team

Our people much like our products are born and bred in Sarawak, comprising of an on-site farm operations team and a research and development team.
